Mobile Stargazer Theatre, ITT/Continental Teves, USA
Continental Teves, one of the world's major suppliers of brake systems, used a mobile motion theatre, based on AI Group's StarGazer theatre concept, to impress on the public in the most memorable way possible the importance of safe braking and good driver training.
The project involved installing a custom built six-seat motion pod theatre with high quality projection system and full 3D surround sound inside a gigantic 8-wheel rig, 65 feet in length and weighing in at a staggering 80,000 pounds.
The theatre was accurately programmed to give the audience a real feel for what happens in an emergency situation, with and without ABS braking. The system provided sensations just like those of being a passenger - all the g-force, but without the control that comes from holding the steering and 'mashing' the brake pedal. The rational was to raise awareness in the simulator as to the importance of proper training in the use of ABS.
The unit proved to be a wonderful promotions tool for Continental Teves, helping raise the company's profile at motor events and dealerships across the US.
